The Dark Side of WP-NewsMag

This is a modified version of the “Wp-NewsMag” theme over at http://www.wp-magazine.se/
When I did the redesign, I was too busy to do a whole new theme myself so I looked at a few premium themes and didn’t really see anything I thought would suit my needs here. When I came across this theme I knew it was perfect for what I needed. As with me I always like darker colors so I immediately knew that I would have to make some Major changes to the theme when I downloaded it. I change all the colors of the theme and added a lot of transparency. I also made use of thumbnails for every post and changed the archives view to a gallery view with the thumbnails and a short description. The original theme you had to have your pictures in a certain directory to use the thumbnails but i changed it so you can add the entire url to use them. I removed the wordpress avatar tags and made use of the MyAvatars plugin because it offers a lot more freedom over the display. Because I changed this to use thumbnails for every post I made it so the smaller 90×90 images use the thumbs you make for the post so you don’t have to make 2 different thumbnails for every post. I also changed all the icons and images which was necessary to go with the new colors. I have also added an ad bar at the bottom which uses 16×16 favicons or images. The theme looks great in Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 3, and Opera 9.5.

I like how you re-styled this.

I don’t think i have every seen any designer that can take anything he sees or creates and truly make it dark. Your eye for making dark themes is i think one of the best in web design today. You can make the most bright theme turn truly to the dark side. You my friend are the pure evil in WordPress design, but in a good way :)

Hmm, not sure I ever got a complement by being called evil before :)

    Jebus i love this theme.

Are there any known problems using this in WordPress 2.8.2 compared to previous versions? I see demo runs 2.8, so I probably mean after that version.

    • Eric Hamby says:

I haven’t heard about any problems or issues so far. I am in the process of updating all themes here on Vast HTML for 2.8+ so even if you purchase no you will get the update free.

Thanks for your reply. I already ordered (and received very quickly, my compliments!) this theme. It’s not the easiest theme to work with, but I’ll handle it :p

haha i agree. I will be making the theme much better with the update. i plan on making all options able to edit from a options menu besides editing the files.
